It never took a lot to make her happy. But of late, it seemed like the only few things that would make her sad were resurfacing and stealing her joy. With her heart heavy with tears, she looked over the moon’s reflection glowing in the pond. Just then, a cool wind embraced her. As the water formed ripples before her, she closed her eyes. “Peace,” she whispered to herself, “I need peace.” At that moment in time, she seemed so small, so insignificant, so useless and yet so bogged down fulfilling life’s demands. “How could it be that in this world there are so many people and yet not one…,” she thought, shaking her head.

She had changed. She wasn’t the same girl that people knew. However, no one realized because they were too busy with their own lives. Heck, she almost forgot about herself in the mix of things. But this place – this place was special to her because it always reminded her of one thing. And it always happened without fail. It was soon time. The sun slowly started to rise and like a child, also began zealously and frantically painting the world to its heart’s content.  Her heart was, if not heavier than before, just as burdened. However, one thing was different. So used to looking down at her feet, she noticed something that she seemed to have overlooked these past few weeks. And at that point, hope sustained her for awhile longer…

She didn’t understand. No matter what she did, no matter who she sought, no matter what she planned or dreamed, it was always short-lived. The emotions that came along with this so called idea of abandonment felt so real and tangible in her heart. She could feel it inching up her throat with each “thump”, creating a knot. People speaking for others, thinking for others, deciding for others what to share and not share. “I just don’t understand,” she told her friend. “Sometimes it’s best not to,” he said in reply. “But…but I need some answers. I need to know that I can trust them.” “That’s exactly it. You can’t,” he said in the same solemn voice. Before trapping herself in another maze of riddles, she found her way out the door, embraced by the cold, but fresh and crisp wind which carried along with it, the scent of jasmine and a brewing thought …Then why should I work this hard to earn someone’s trust?

As her crowded mind was about to hit the pillow, she was interrupted by yet, another thought. What if… she began to think to herself. She sighed and smiled and tried to clear her mind with a shake of her head. “Nah, maybe some day…” Her mind was still swamped but sleep was a priority right now. Tucked in, she tilted her head to face the window. A bright glow escaped through the blinds. “It’s back again!” she got up on her knees and peeked through the blinds to find a friend she knew too well…
